Who gets cast in NYT productions?
All students who audition will be cast in Nightingale Youth Theater productions.
Do I need to have experience in theater to audition?
Not at all. Nightingale Youth Theater is open to students of all experience levels. Nightingale Youth Theater aims to provide a safe, supportive environment for students to grow in their performance skills among peers.
My family is new to NYT, what do we need to do first?
Welcome to NYT! To get started, please complete and submit your New Family Application for approval. Once your application is approved, you’ll be able to register for any NYT program you’re interested in. Feel free to reach out with any questions—we’re here to help!
Do I need to prepare anything for my audition?
Students are asked to prepare a one-minute audition song showcasing their voice, accompanied by an instrumental backing track on a device of their choice.
What will I do at auditions?
Auditions consist of individual vocal auditions, where each student will audition individually in front of the production staff. Following the completion of each student’s vocal audition, students will earn a short dance section at auditions and perform the section in small groups for the production staff.
What is a callback?
A callback is an invitation from the directors for a student to perform specific scenes, songs, or dances for a particular character after their initial audition. If a student is selected for a callback, they will be notified and given material to prepare. Getting a callback does not guarantee that the student will get the role, and not receiving one does not mean they won’t be cast. Students who are called back are expected to return on the designated callback date and time, as detailed in the notice they receive.
